How to Apply Upgrades
Upgrades are a core part of Staves Rest, they are what make your staxies unique! Applying upgrades is easy-peasy. If you've been in an ES-ARPG before, you'll find this process very familiar. If you're new to ES-ARPGs, then this guide is for you!
Let's say we want to apply Barbels to one of our stumps.
Step 1: Bean Count
First thing you want to do is make sure you have enough beans to apply the upgrade!
Step 2: Upgrade Requirements
Most upgrades have a drawing requirement, but some also have age requirements!
If an upgrade has a drawing requirement, make sure the requirement is done before applying the upgrade.
Upgrades cannot be applied in the same image as the requirement.
All drawing requirements must be Colored at a minimum unless specified otherwise.
Step 3: Applying the Upgrade
Finally, when applying the upgrade, you simply draw your staxie with their new upgrade (following any rules specified in the upgrade's "Rules" section). In the description of this drawing, you'll want to state that you're applying an upgrade and link any requirements you fulfilled, seen below!
Upgrade applications must be Colored at a minimum.
There's no one-way to fill out the description. So long as the upgrade being applied is clearly stated and the requirements are clearly listed, you're good! Here's an example of alternate formatting!

Step 3B: Colors on Upgrades
When applying an upgrade, make sure to read the Rules section as it will tell you what colors you can make your new upgrade when you first apply it!
Let's take Barbels for example here, it can be "Any color already on your staxie."

This means your staxie's Barbels, when applied for the first time, can be any of the following colors:

Base color

Any secondary color

Accent color
-
Eye color

Some upgrades, such as Colored Sclera, can be any color, and yes this means any color, even if it's not on your staxie anywhere else!
In this case, the color you choose CANNOT be color mixed elsewhere in the future!

Upgrade Items
Upgrade items are used to bypass upgrades' drawing/age requirements. They are purchaseable in our shop and are also given out in raffles and other events.
These can be used to apply adult upgrades to stumps.
When using an upgrade item, the process is similar, though instead of listing requirements, you simply say "Using Mossball", or something along those lines, seen here!

Can I draw upgrade requirements for adult upgrades while my staxie is a stump?
Unless specified otherwise, yes!
Can I add upgrades (ie. ears, tail, etc) AND color upgrades (ie. color mixer) at the same time?
Yes!
Do I have to do the same upgrade requirement for multiple staxies?
Usually yes. Upgrades that require a separate requirement for each staxie will state "the staxie you want this upgrade for". Upgrades that span across multiple staxies and that do NOT require doing the requirement several times are marked as "Perma-Unlock".
Can I stylize upgrades to look different from the example image?
To an extent, yes. If you're unsure, ask in the questions channel! If stylization starts mimicking a different upgrade, you may be asked to follow the example art a bit more closely.
