Twills

twill1.png

Twills are wild animals found deep in the Wanderwide Forest and near the Roaring Cliffs. Their bodies are small, usually a foot long, and their tentacles each another five to six feet. This adds up to a creature normally twelve feet long tentacle to tentacle, though larger specimens topping twenty feet long is more common than staxies like.

Twills have bright eyes that can rapidly fluctuate in color to distract and confuse their prey. They also have a large beak in the center of their face, while this beak isn't made to rip and shred, a bite still hurts and can draw blood.

A twills' main weapon is their tentacles, however. Their tentacles are covered in suckers that initially grapple prey while

the tips are covered in sharp barbs that assist in keeping prey still, although they can also shred flesh to be swallowed more easily.

Twills are predator animals, and while they aren't known to seek staxies out and attack them for sport, they are opportunistic feeders, and a lone staxie is a hard meal to pass up. Most twill attacks aren't fatal, as struggling and fighting back will usually drive a twill off, but they are still frightening creatures that deter most staxies from wandering too far into the woods alone.

Lucky for staxies, twills are solitary creatures and are rarely seen in pairs or groups. Twills only gather to reproduce, with the "father" being completely absent from parenting while the "mother" dedicated the next few months of her life to protecting the eggs and babies (twills are hermaphroditic, so the parental terms are applied loosely).

Brooding twills are the nastiest as they are willing to risk their lives to keep any threats away. In addition to this aggression, brooding twills do not leave to hunt and only eat anything that passes by; this results in ravenous

creatures that are very dangerous for unsuspecting staxies. Not only are they protecting their eggs and are willing to do anything to drive a staxie away, they are VERY hungry and are very interested in eating said staxie-- that'll keep a twill fed for weeks!

Twills do not have a specific season for breeding, they will reproduce year-round. This is unfortunate since staxies can't plan trips into the forest at "safe" times of year-- there is always a chance of stumbling upon an angry twill, so star alert!

Injuries caused by twills are common. Unfortunately, they pierce deep, which is perfect for infections to set in quickly. Twills also tend to pull after puncturing their prey, causing large gashes on arms and legs that require stitches. Twills do not commonly kill staxies as they're large and difficult to kill, but they do happen-- worse yet, they happen to solo travelers, and thus their remains are often never found.
