How to Breed Your Staxie(s)
This guide will go over all the mechanics of breeding your staxies.
If you're looking for lore, check out the Development and Breeding Page instead!
A fun mechanic we have in Staves-Rest allows for members to breed two staxies together to get a brand new staxie! Eggs obtained from breedings are more unique than their MYO counterparts, hatching with upgrades (sometimes rare ones) inherited from their parents, unique color palettes and maybe even magic or mutations!
Breeding can seem like a daunting task if you've participated in other ARPGs, but we tried to make the process easy and user-friendly here! Let's jump right in!

To breed your staxie(s), you'll need the following:
-
An open Free Breeding Slot or a Breeding Ticket
-
Two official, approved adults that are at least 3 months old
-
A tracker for both to-be parents
-
-
(Optional) Up to three breeding images
-
This guide to help you out!
Free Breeding Slot vs Breeding Ticket
Every member gets one Free Breeding Slot per year to use. This slot resets on December 8th every year, and if it wasn't used, it will NOT stack (so we recommend you use them!)
Free breeding slots are not tradable, but the eggs that result from them are. So even if you don't really want the egg, use it and trade the egg for something you want (or give it to a friend!).
Mechanically, free breeding slots and breeding tickets do not differ. Odds for upgrades/mutations/multiple eggs/magic are the same for both.
Picking your Parents
To breed two staxies, they must:
-
Be approved adults
-
Be at least three months old
-
Both have a filled-out tracker
-
Include a mechanical female and mechanical male
-
Unless breeding during Bamblebright Season
-
Sterile staxies cannot breed
-
-
NOT be related
-
They cannot share a parent. We do not check further back than that, so if this is a problem for you, keep track of your staxie's bloodlines!
-
-
Be off cooldown (if applicable)
-
When staxies breed, both parents must wait ONE MONTH before they can breed again.
-

Collaborating with Other Members
When breeding your staxies, you can breed two of your own staxies OR breed your staxie with another member's staxie! The process is the same, but there's a few important things to make note of:
-
Whoever posts the comment in #breeding-approvals has their slot/ticket consumed and is the owner of the resulting egg(s)
-
Make sure your breeding partner is aware of this and okay with it!
-
Some members stud their characters out for free or for compensation. Discuss the terms of the breeding beforehand to avoid issues after the egg is rolled.
-
-
Breeding images can be drawn and posted by either participating member.
-
Breeding images cannot be posted by a third party.
-
We don't want to have to worry about chasing down members and getting consent for these images. It opens the door for weird problems in the back of Morty's mind lol.
-
-
Breeding images can be collabed by both participating members and/or a third party.
-

"Hosting" a Breeding
If you wish, you may "host" a breeding, using your breeding ticket and two staxies owned by other member(s).
As previously stated, whoever posts the breeding will have their free slot/ticket used.
Breeding Images
Breeding images are optional for breedings, but they are highly recommended! They increase the chances for rarer upgrades, mutations and magic.
-
A breeding can have up to three breeding images.
-
Breeding images must be POLISHED.
-
If you link a breeding image and it is NOT polished, we will simply not use it for your breeding roll.
-
-
Breeding images can be quest and/or magic images as well if you want!
-
Breeding images must include both staxies that are breeding to count.
-
They can portray the pair hanging out, on a date, learning magic, whatever! They don't need to be romantic in nature if you don't want!
-
They must be adults in the images. Stump pics do not count.
-
-
Breeding images must be posted by one of the participating members.
-
Either of the breeding staxie owners OR the host.

Filling Out Your Breeding Tracker
From a glance, the breeding tracker may look scary and confusing, but we promise this guy is as user-friendly as our coders could manage!
This tracker makes breedings easier for our staff to roll (meaning you get your eggs faster) and removes the chance for human-error on our side. The difficulty of the tracker is worth both of these bullets in our book!
Let's jump right into filling this guy out:
STEP ONE
Make a copy of the tracker linked above.

STEP TWO
Fill out the Basics of the tracker.
YELLOW boxes are mandatory.
BLUE boxes will autofill for you!
The rest of the boxes are optional.
Your staxie's magic will automatically pull from the Masterlist.
A filled-out tracker is seen below.

STEP THREE
Fill out your staxie's upgrades on the "Upgrades" tab.
First, select the upgrade category, then select the upgrade name.
Link any and all requirements, then link the image where you applied the upgrade.
Repeat this process for all of your staxie's upgrades.
(Upgrades do not need to be listed in any particular order.)
Look below for specific how-to's.
The Upgrade List on the first page will autofill, seen below.

STEP FOUR
Make your tracker public!

Do NOT rename the tabs at the bottom of your tracker!!
They should always be "Basics" and "Upgrades", nothing else!!
Pointers for filling out your Upgrades Tab
Potions and Upgrade Items:
If you earned an upgrade via potion or upgrade item, then you do NOT need to fill out the requirement boxes, leave them blank!
Simply link your application image. (It should have a Mod Message confirming the upgrade)
Mutations
Mutations can be found under the "Category" dropdown on the Upgrades tab. Make sure to include any and all mutations your staxie has!
Once again, ignore the requirement boxes.
If your staxie was born with the mutation, link their approval.
If they obtained the mutation via Magic Pencil, then link your Magic Pencil application!
Purchased/Raffled/Transferred/Bred Staxies
If your staxie was obtained from any of these methods, they probably came with upgrades as a stump! In these cases, you can skip out on the requirement boxes; just link their approval as the "Application Image".
Prerequisite Upgrades
Only list the upgrades your staxie currently has! This means for fully grown wings and horns, you do not include "Nubby Stubs", "Baby Back Wings", etc. on your tracker.
EXAMPLE: If your staxie has Full Back Wings, use the Requirement Columns to link the three images of Medium Back Wings (use E+F+G) and the application of Medium Back Wings (use H).

If your staxie is breeding with another member's staxie, then @ them here!
Breeding Items
List any items you're using with your breeding.
Previous Breeding Date
If your staxie has bred before, list the date that the egg was rolled.
Grandparents
If your staxie has parents, you MUST list them here so we can make sure the two breeding staxies aren't related.
You can choose to use the grandparents in the breeding or not. Grandparents can pass down their base colors and/or their upgrades to the baby!
Breeding Images
Link up to three breeding images if you'd like!
Breeding Items
The following items can be purchased from our store and used in conjunction with your breeding! They have different uses to help get the colors you want on your baby!

Parent Color Picker (PCP)
Allows you to pick which parents' base you want your egg to have.
[Cannot be combined with PB or SPB]

Wild Card (WC)
One of your egg's secondary colors will be completely random.

Paint Bucket (PB)
Allows you to pick the egg's base, down to the HEX code!
[Cannot be combined with PCP or SPB]

Dual Palette (DP)
Your egg will have a secondary pulled from the parent that the base wasn't pulled from.

Spilled Paint Bucket (SPB)
Egg will have a random base color, independent of the parents'!
[Cannot be combined with PCP or PB]

Colored Contacts (CC)
You can pick your egg's eyes color-- any color!
Breeding Odds
Several factors contribute to upgrades, mutations and magic inheritance. Here, we listed the range of odds for these breeding occurrences!

Tier 2 Upgrades (Pearl): 4.0% to 15.0%
Tier 1 Upgrades (Event): 1.0% to 6.0%

FAQ
Can I get a reroll if I don't like my egg?
No, sorry!

How are palette colors picked?
We use a bot to pick the palettes for consistency's sake! This allows members to know what they're getting ahead of time with no surprises or disappointment!
Check our Hypo-Roller to see the palette generator! You can test different HEX codes to see what your baby will look like.
NOTICE: The palette generator struggles with neon green, popping out colors that look a little too similar. Any palettes that struggle with this problem will be hand-picked! In this case, the palettes will be less predictable and we apologize for that!

If I donate/delete the stump I get from my Free Slot breeding, can I use the slot again?
Nope! Your slot will reset on December 8th of every year, so you can try again then!
If you don't like your roll, try trading it or giving it away!
What happens to eggs that are never hatched?
Whether the owner leaves the group or simply loses interest, the egg is theirs to keep! Just because they don't use it in Staves Rest doesn't mean they won't turn it into an OC or transfer it elsewhere. For this reason, we will not be confiscating "abandoned" eggs-- it's not fair to the owners!
Do I have to use all the upgrades my egg is rolled with?
Nope! You'll want to list all the upgrades your egg was rolled with when you're getting the baby approved, but you don't need to use all of them! This includes breeding injuries.
However, mutations are not optional and MUST be applied!

How are non-canon breedings viewed in the group?
Mechanically, all breedings are canon. However, you can write your stories however you want!
Do I have to list my staxie's parents?
Yes, so we can prevent related staxies from breeding. You must list them, but if you don't want to use them, just select NO.
What happens to my breeding items if I roll a mutated staxie?
If you roll an albino, melanoid, speckled leucistic, wild type or chimera stump, your Parent Color Picker, Paint Bucket, or Spilled Paint Bucket will be refunded to you. Dual Palettes, Wild Cards and Colored Contacts will still be used!
